Porsche’s mid‑engine cars have, since their launch, often been forced to take a back seat in terms of performance compared with their big brother, the 911 — perhaps not explicitly stated by the manufacturer, but the Cayman/Boxster models suffered from what is colloquially called “the Cayman complex.” The term describes the feeling that the little brother never received equally sharp engines or as much performance, to avoid the fantastic chassis completely overshadowing the 911. The term disappeared when Porsche chose to launch the phenomenal GT4 in 2015. Suddenly we had a car that gave us everything. The car was praised from all corners and was a success from day one. When the 718 was launched shortly after with exclusively 4‑cylinder engines, it felt like a step backwards, even though the new turbocharged engine provided a mid‑range that was missing in the 981. Then a new GT4 arrived, now with a 4.0‑liter engine, and not long after a new GTS — to many people’s surprise with the same engine.

And this is exactly what we now have in front of us. A Porsche 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 — a long name for a small car but a very special creation. Specified here in lovely and classic Agate Gray with silver 20" wheels. A sporty yet elegant exterior, well suited to a car that has full focus on the driving experience. That becomes obvious when you step in and settle into the driver’s seat. The interior is entirely in black leather and puts full focus on the driver. In front of you is a stripped‑down, focused instrument layout with a centrally mounted tachometer and, in the center console, a six‑speed manual gearbox. The four‑liter GTS is undeniably a special creation and without doubt something we will never experience again. It combines a naturally aspirated engine, borrowed from the 911, with one of the brand’s best chassis. Low weight yet still practical and user‑friendly. A sales text like this cannot contain all the praise we have for the 718 GTS 4.0 — that is something the driver must experience for themselves.

A wonderful example of Porsche’s perhaps most underrated driving experience, especially when, as here, it is combined with a manual gearbox. Sparingly used and, of course, sold in Sweden.
